The Lopi Cape Cod Wins Accolades at the International Wood Stove Design Challenge

The Lopi Cape Cod competed in the Next Generation Wood Stove Design Challenge and proved why we officially have the cleanest burning, most efficient wood stove on the planet that is certified by the EPA! The Alliance for Green Heat and Popular Mechanics sponsored the Wood Stove Design Challenge that was held on November 16 -19 at the National Mall in Washington, DC. Twelve teams from around the world competed in the first international competition to build an affordable, cleaner-burning wood stove for residential heating. The Cape Cod had much success and won three of the eight awards given out at the Wood Stove Decathlon!

The Wood Stove Decathlon started because there’s not much information on what the cleanest and most efficient wood stoves are and we wanted to educate consumers on how to identify them, said John Ackerly, President of the Alliance for Green Heat. He also said they wanted to give wood stoves a facelift by showing there really is a high-tech future for them.

We are proud to announce that the Cape Cod won first place in the People’s Choice Award! The Cape Cod received the highest amount of votes out of the 15,000 votes that were casted. A big thank you goes out to everyone who voted for the Cape Cod in the People’s Choice category, we couldn’t have won without you! Please forward this message on to anyone who you asked to vote for us.

During the Decathlon, the stoves were tested and judged in six categories- Efficiency, CO Emissions, Particulate Emissions, Market Appeal, Affordability and Innovation. The Cape Cod took home first place awards for the Lowest CO Emissions and Market Appeal.

The Wood Stove Design Challenge was an overall success and gave us the opportunity to showcase not only the Cape Cod, but our revolutionary clean-burning technology, Hybrid-Fyre™ to people from all over the world. Ambassadors from Denmark and Finland, as well as United States Congressmen got to experience Hybrid-Fyre™ and all that our clean burning stove has to offer. We received $5,000 for our winnings and donated the money to the Alliance for Green Heat to give back and help them pay for the expenses of the Decathlon.

Although our stove did excellent and took home the prize for Lowest CO Emissions, keep in mind that the testing at the Wood Stove Decathlon was just a snapshot of emissions at the time being. The Cape Cod is a product that has been available on the market for the last twelve months and wasn’t designed as a prototype for the competition. The Cape Cod was and still is EPA-certified as officially the cleanest burning, most efficient large wood stove in the world!

Lopi Cape Cod named Finalist for the international competition of Stove builders

Judges announced today that the Lopi Cape Cod has been selected as a finalist in the Wood Stove Design Challenge, the first international competition to build an affordable, cleaner-burning wood stove for residential heating. The finalists' stoves will be tested and judged on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in November 2013. The winner will receive $25,000 cash.

The Wood Stove Design Challenge was launched by the Alliance for Green Heat, an independent non-profit, to bring more innovation to a popular, widely used renewable energy device. In selecting finalists, judges looked for designs that could produce ultra-low emissions, high efficiency, in addition to innovation, affordability, and marketability.

"The competition brings together innovators - whether established manufacturers or backyard inventors - to improve America's most widespread residential renewable energy device, the wood stove. We've seen how technologies like oxygen sensors and catalysts have made today's automobiles far less polluting. We're excited to help encourage a similar technological revolution in wood stoves," said Jim Meigs, judge and Editor-in-Chief of Popular Mechanics.

The Cape Cod wood stove features breakthrough Hybrid-Fyre technology to produce an incredibly clean burn (.45 grams/hour) with over 80% efficiency and virtually no carbon monoxide. The Lopi Cape Cod is built by Travis Industries, America's premier hearth manufacturer based in Mukilteo, WA.
